Washington-on-the-Brazos is where Texas itself was born — the site where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in 1836. The state historic site includes a replica of Independence Hall, the Star of the Republic Museum, and Barrington Living History Farm, where costumed docents recreate 1850s farm life. The park's 293 acres along the Brazos River also make for great picnicking and bird-watching.
